Zuckerberg bashes Apple CEO Tim Cook
Cook’s assessment is directed toward companies whose business models are based on collecting revenue through advertisements; and Google is probably the company he is pointing at because the Mountain View-based tech giant is the biggest competitor Apple currently has. However, founder and CEO of social media behemoth Facebook took offence of the remark as his company’s model of business is largely based on earning revenue through advertisements.
At a recent press conference, Mark Zuckerberg bashed Apple CEO Tim Cook by accusing him of advancing a concept that ridiculously equate such businesses as somehow “out of alignment” with their customers.
Zuckerberg further goes on saying that if Apple was in alignment with its customers, the company would have made their products a lot cheaper. Cook wants to establish that with Apple (and of course, with the iOS platform), customers’ privacy is more secured. However, the recent hacking of some celebrities’ iCloud accounts outweighs his claim.
Facebook has a (rather weak) rival social media platform Ello that does not accumulate users’ personal data and does not support advertisements; Zuckerberg’s comment may as well has been directed toward Ello.
With more than 1.35 billion users worldwide, Facebook has generated huge revenue of $7.87 billion from advertisements last year, out of which 1.5 billion was net profit. As a global online social media platform, Facebook employs 8000 full time workers.
